A Flash-free future? Yes, people are predicting the death of Flash since Apple banned that from its all Gadgets one by one. We have heard about the story of long relationship between Apple and Adobe. But now we find Apple-Adobe feud for last few weeks regarding Apple’s decision. And it is not the sum-up of the story. Adobe has been on the defensive sine Apple said, Flash is no longer necessary.
Apple is saying that HTML5 is the future of web while Adobe says Flash will still be an integral part of the web in the near future. Who is right, though? Or are you trying to say that none is absolutely right at all?
Apple is trying to say that there is a way better than Flash and that is HTML5. Apple’s comment revealed their Flash distaste. Now the debate is largely a debate about the prospect of HTML5 instead of Flash. Apple highlights that Flash is mostly used for web-based games and in website design while HTML5 is the best way to deliver web video on mobile.
Technology experts say, HTML5 might be the future of the Web, but that future could take a very long time. But till now mobile platform is about touch interfaces and open web standards where existing Flash falls short. Even if we think of applications on Apple’s App store, more than 200,000 rich apps including games that are living the life without Flash and collectively they are successful.
There is a well-known story when Firefox Mobile was released for Nokia N900. Flash support on the device had been removed at the last moment due to long standing issues with Flash. So nobody should expect that transition to mobile would be problem free.
Coming out from the fight between Apple and Adobe, it is fine to aspire for a solution that would suit the technological reality. And the ultimate truth is one size does not fit all, so let’s welcome the new one!
