If we answer in simple words, what is PHP. It’s a scripting language which was designed to produce dynamic web pages much more efficiently. Since it was created in 1995, it has been widely used especially suited for web development. It generally runs on a web server and can be deployed on most of the web servers and on almost every operating systems and platform free of charge. It has already been used on more than 20 million websites and on 1 million web servers.
In 2008 PHP 5 became the only stable version under development. New version PHP 6 is under development and it has been said that it will be much easier to use, more secure, and more suitable for internationalization. Native support for Unicode or multibyte strings which was not available in the previous versions of PHP will be available in the improved and the latest version PHP V6. It’s going to be much more advanced and easier for developers to use it further. This gives us an idea about how popular PHP is going to be in the days to come and it will be used in the development over a large scale.
