Battle for Supremacy is still there!

For the last few years, we have been watching that iPhone is still dominating the mobile market even under the threat of the entrant Android, while Android itself is making a big gain worldwide. If we come upon the emerging trends of mobile devices and usage of operating systems; on the market share front, Apple is the number one device manufacturer while Nokia is in second position.

But when it comes to Operating Systems, iOS is the leading platform with 40% of all ad requests including iPhone, iPod touch or iPad units, but it is actually facing challenges from Android’s 26% of all ad requests worldwide. If we compare the global reach of these two operating systems, we can find that being market leading OS, iPhone rules in US while conversely Android reaches in North America, with China and other Asian countries and stands in second place with 13% of share.

Although the download habits of Android and iPhone users remain similar, but because of iPhone, iPod touch and iPad apps, Apple scores much better than other related manufactures and even WebOS.

It is true that Android still lags behind, but there might be a case when Android itself would be outpacing iPhone in near future.

Analysts usually say that market share isn’t the only thing that determines how much a mobile developer or mobile development company will invest in a mobile platform. Perhaps, for that reason only, Android’s challenge is not only in gaining market share, but in competing as a robust application platform.

As mobile industry is an explosive industry platform with so many growth values, today’s facts and figures may not necessarily be indicative of tomorrow. So we cannot comment on the direction of the mobile technology market.
